Why have I been referred to an endodontist?

You have been refered to an endodontist if your dentist feels either endodontic treatment or endodontic surgery may be appropriate to help save your tooth.

An endodontist is a dentist who has chosen to specialize in endodontic procedures. They have completed dental school plus at least three years of additional training.

Endodontists can provide valuable alternatives to tooth extraction - ones that can help you keep your natural teeth for the rest of your life. They are experienced in performing routine and complex endodontic procedures, including:

• Endodontic Treatment (Root Canal Therapy)
  Also known as "root canal therapy", this procedure is utilized to treat tissue inside your tooth that has become infected. (read more)
   
• Endodontic Surgery
  For a variety of reasons, some cases cannot be diagnosed or treated by endodontic treatment alone. When this happens there is a selection of procedures your endodontist can utilize. (read more)
   
• Endodontic Retreatment
  Your endodontist will discuss your chances of success so you can make an informed decision. However, should infection or pain re-occur another endodontic procedure may provide a second chance to save your tooth. (read more)
