2010 Annual Alumni Day POSTPONED

Dear Friends,

As you may be aware, the G20 summit will be held in Toronto on the weekend of 25-26 June, 2010, the dates of our 2010 Alumni Weekend.  The city is preparing for multiple disruptions including traffic restrictions, acts of vandalism and even violent protests.  Much of this activity is expected to occur in the downtown areas and around Queen’s Park, but it is also expected to spill over to other parts of town.  In response to the expected mayhem, and to avoid exposing its community to risk, the University of Toronto will close its facilities and cease all scheduled activities at the St. George campus and the Faculty of Dentistry from Thursday 24th till Sunday 27th June.  This decision directly impacts on our Alumni Weekend, scheduled to be held at the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty Club on the St. George campus.

After exploring various alternatives and consulting with Dr. Terence Mah, President of the Endodontic Alumni & Friends and others within and outside the Discipline of Endodontics, I am convinced that holding the 2010 Alumni Weekend events as planned would inconvenience our many guests and, more importantly, potentially expose them to risks. I decided, therefore, to postpone the 2010 Alumni Weekend.  At this time I am considering different dates in the Fall, so as to allow everyone sufficient time to adjust their schedules.  The new dates will be announced as soon as we have secured availability of our keynote speaker and the venues.

I truly apologize for the inconvenience this is causing all of you who have already finalized the travel plans, but my primary concern is your and other guests’ safety and ability to enjoy the visit to Toronto and our Alumni Weekend events. If you have already mailed in your cheque, please let Annemarie know whether you prefer to have it marked VOID and returned, or to have it shredded.
